# How to set up Deposits

> Step by step guide to setting up deposits in Xentral

## What are Deposits?

The configuration of deposit items enables correct billing and management of deposit fees.

### Setting Up Deposit Items

    Create a separate article in Xentral for each type of deposit (e.g., bottles, crates).

  <Step title="Assign GTIN/EAN">
    Assign a unique GTIN/EAN to each deposit item.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Mark as deposit">
    Mark the article as a deposit item in the system.
  </Step>

### Bills of Materials for Articles with Deposits

Bills of materials must be created for articles with deposits:

    Create a bill of materials that contains both the main article and the deposit item(s).

    Specify the correct number of deposit items per main article.
