# How to set up Article Hierarchies

> Step by step guide to setting up article hierarchies in Xentral

## What are Article Hierarchies/Bills of Materials?

Article hierarchies and bills of materials enable the structured representation of composite products.

### Basic Requirements for Article Hierarchies

* Each bill of materials must be linked to individual articles (including GTINs/EANs)
* Bills of materials should contain corresponding sub-positions in appropriate numbers with article prices
* Prices should (if possible) be listed at the level of the individual sub-positions
